CBS went all out on Spirit Day, so much so that GLAAD gave a special online shout out to talent from numerous CBS shows and employees from across the country who dressed in purple and took a stand against bullying and in support of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) youth. On Oct. 17, talent from many of our shows, including BIG BROTHER, SHAMELESS, STAR TREK: DISCOVERY, THE PRICE IS RIGHT, FBI, MOM, MAGNUM P.I. and YOUNG SHELDON participated, along with hundreds of CBS on-camera and off-camera employees who took selfies using the hashtag #CBSPRIDE and posted online support messages. Some CBS locations collaborated on special events with their local CBS Pride LGBTQ+ employee resource groups.
CBS Corporation was a proud sponsor of the Out & Equal Workplace Summit on October 14-17th. The conference brought together more than 6,000 industry professionals, including executives, Employee Resource Group members, HR and Diversity & Inclusion professionals for three days of educational opportunities including over 90 workshops, featured panels, community advisory roundtables, special networking mixers, receptions and events, and inspirational plenaries featuring prominent LGBTQ and ally leaders.
Employees representing Smithsonian Channel and CBS News volunteered to participate to learn best practices to create workplaces which are inclusive of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions. “It’s always encouraging to meet LGBTQ+ people where you work, and Out & Equal is great to bring coworkers together and build that chemistry within a company says Jake Miller”, Producer, Face the Nation. “It’s rewarding in a completely different way to go to the conference and meet LGBTQ+ people from hundreds of other employers. There is strength in numbers, and Out & Equal makes me feel optimistic about the future of workplace diversity and inclusion. ”Example workshops included how to launch an Employee Resource Group, Inclusivity through Allyship & Intersectionality, How to Engage Remote Employees and Fostering Corporate LGBTQ+ Culture to Satellite Locations. “Attending the Out & Equal Workplace Summit was incredibly inspiring” says Michaela Brown, Production Manager, Smithsonian. “I walked away from the summit feeling enlightened and motivated to continue to grow as an ally. I’m proud to work for CBS, a company committed to building a culture of belonging and empowering employees to be their full selves at work.”
